Upholstery care labels: information to send before cleaning
Why a photo of the care label helps plan sofa cleaning, and why the label cannot replace inspection.
Quick answer
An upholstery care label is the manufacturer’s guidance attached to a furnishing about its materials and care. Send a readable photo alongside a full view of the item when requesting cleaning. A label helps identify restrictions, but the fabric, construction, color stability, condition and previous products still need assessment.
Photograph the whole item and the label
Take a full view of the sofa or chair, a closer view of the concern and a readable label photo. Include removable cushions and the number of seats. A fabric description such as “soft beige sofa” is not enough to identify a safe cleaning process.
Do not treat a code as a home recipe
Read the manufacturer’s full instructions instead of applying a treatment based on one letter or an online chart. Labels and wording can differ between products. If instructions are missing or unclear, discuss that uncertainty with the cleaner before work.

List sprays, spot products and previous services. If a cushion is different from the rest of the furnishing, point it out. The estimate should state what can be evaluated beforehand and what requires an on-site check, rather than promise every stain will disappear.
