Grout cleaning versus sealing: two different services
Cleaning removes soil; sealing is a separate protective treatment whose suitability depends on the grout and tile assembly.
Quick answer
Grout cleaning addresses dirt and residues in existing joints. Sealing is a separate treatment intended to reduce absorption in suitable porous grout. A sealer does not clean a dirty joint or repair missing grout. The material and condition determine whether sealing is appropriate, and it should be listed separately in the quote.
Identify what needs attention
Send a wide floor photo and a close-up of the joints. Describe discoloration, residues, cracks or missing sections separately. Cleaning, repair and changing the grout color are different requests; do not assume one service includes all of them.
Confirm compatibility before adding protection
Ask which grout and tile materials are present and what the proposed product requires. Some assemblies need different care. The cleaner should distinguish routine surface cleaning from a repair concern or a condition that requires another specialist.

A quote should identify the area, cleaning work, optional sealing and any exclusions. If sealing is agreed, ask for the applicable preparation, cure and return-to-use instructions. Protection is not a promise that spills or future stains will never occur.
